ECU Wesley Leadership

Picture
Janey Thomas, Campus Minister

Janey is very excited to be the campus minister at ECU Wesley as of June 15, 2014. She grew up in Lone Grove, Oklahoma. She is an alumnus of Lone Grove High School & East Central University with a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education.

During college, Janey worked closely with the youth group at Trinity Baptist Church in Ada. She was also very active at the UCM (now the ECU Wesley) as a member of the leadership team and an evangelism intern. She had the opportunity to go on numerous mission trips and was a leader at many summer camps at Cross Point.

It was during her time at UCM (now the ECU Wesley) that Janey felt called to full-time Christian Ministry. She began fulfilling that calling prior to college graduation at First Presbyterian Church in Ada as the Director of Christian Education for Children, Youth & College. She remained very active on the Board of Directors for the UCM (now the ECU Wesley).

After 4 years at FPC, Janey moved to Will Rogers UMC in Tulsa as the Children’s Minister. During this time, she served on the Wesley Board at the University of Tulsa as well as on the Conference’s Standing Committee on Campus Ministry.

God opened a door of opportunity for Janey to join the staff at the OU Wesley as the Associate Campus Minister in July 2008. She oversaw: the day to day logistics, discipled females on their leadership team, lead the Leaders in Training Program, oversaw the small group & bible study ministry, planned & carried out their summer golf tournament, and spoke at numerous churches & summer camps about campus ministry. She also served as the Dean of several camps each year: Sonshine, Journey, Dayspring South, GRAD Retreat, and Senior Adult Summit.

Janey has served on numerous  Oklahoma Annual Conference committees and boards:  Associate Conference Lay Leader for Spiritual Servant Leadership, Board of Laity, Nominations Team, Lake Country District Strategic Missional Team, Corporation Committee, Discipleship Ministry Team & the Epsicopal Committee.

In May 2015, the Oklahoma Annual Conference Laity elected her to serve as a delegate to General Conference in Portland, Oregon in May 2016 as well as a delegate to the Jurisdiction Conference in Wichita, Kansas in July 2016. She represented Oklahoma laity at the special called General Conference 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was elected again in May 2019 to represent laity at General Conference 2021.

Janey married her best friend, Tony Thomas on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Ada First United Methodist Church. She feels very blessed by God in all of the many opportunities that have been given to her.

Please let her know if you have any questions about the ECU Wesley!

Chris Byers, FUSION Worship Leader

Chris Byers is our Fusion Worship Leader at the ECU Wesley. He is married to Juliet. They have a beautiful daughter, Hannah Byers. Chris was born in Dallas, Texas. Chris majored in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Religious Studies at Oklahoma State University, graduating in 2008. When Chris & Juliet lived in Austin, they were involved with Life Church in Leander, Texas. Once they moved to Ada, their home church is Cross Pointe. Chris and his wife are very involved with their church family.  Chris works full time with Apple in phone sales.

Chris just finished his first full year as a father, and he says it was great! He enjoys watching movies and the occasional video game in his leisure time. He is a self proclaimed expert on all things James Bond, and it is his favorite movie series as well.

Chris’s favorite scriptures are Philippians 4:6-7,  “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” and 1 Peter 3:15-16, "but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame."
